Dear friends,

God has sent me a gift. Jordan Shortino. He passed away on November 10th 2007. Jordan was a donor and I was blessed to receive his liver. He saved my life. Recently, I was blessed to receive a phone call from a sweet lady named Nancy. She was Jordan's mom. Two weeks ago I met with Nancy and Bobs at there home. They are wonderful people. They were so kind to Brian, Wyatt and I. We had a wonderful visit. I could never express enough with words what they mean to me and my family. We are forever thankful. I wish I could have met Jordan. He was an amazing person.

Hello to all of my friends,

Its been a while..huh? Well in a way that's good, because usually when I post something It has to do with me being sick. But not this time.... I had the most wonderful blessed thing happen to Brian, Wyatt and I. We met my liver donor's mom and dad today. They were so wonderful. I will be posting some pictures of all of us soon and telling you more about my precious time with them. But I just couldn't wait to tell all of you. So keep and eye out for some great pics soon. WE love all of you. And I am doing great.

Hello All my friends,

Brian, Wyatt and I had a really nice time in Kentucky for Christmas. It was so cold! In this picture we are in front of a Cracker barrel yummy! But is was sooo cold! As for my health I am continuing to stay healthy. My #'s are doing great and I feel good. Wyatt was so cute opening his gifts this year. I felt so blessed to be able to be with him and Brian and feel so good.

You should check it out on Pointofview.net. It really made me think about my Wyatt and what we as parents have to face in the near future while doing our best to raise our children. So check it out. Merry Christmas everyone!

It is an exciting Christmas for Brian, Wyatt and I because Its not at a hospital! Brian and I are headed to my in-laws who live in Kentucky to celebrate this wonderful season of Christmas. Wyatt will get to play in the snow for the first time. The doctors have never been so happy with my health. They say that I am better than I've ever been and that all the problems that put me in the hospital were caused from to much medication. Just to show you how much they have cut my med's down, I normally take 42 myfortic acid pills a week. I'm down to 12! This one particular drug is the reason that doctors have told Brian and I that we can not have anymore children. But, for the first time last week the doctors gave us hope that sometime next year Brian and I might be able to have another baby. That is of course if I stay healthy and stable. The goal is to get me off this one medication all together. We are sooooooo happy! Just to here hope is more that we could have ever imagine. So, to all my friends, may you have a wonderful and blessed Christmas. Until next time.

Hello all,

Well first thing I want to say is thank God for drugs!!..haha. The drugs they gave me for my colonoscapy were wonderful. I don't remember and thing!! praise the Lord! :) haha. Everything came back normal and they have lowered my rejection med's a ton. The doctor's think they may be the culprit. I go back in two weeks for a check up and get my blood drawn every Tue. for a few weeks and hope for the best. Wow it was tough being in the hospital this time. Being with out Wyatt was almost unbearable for Brian and I. Six days seemed like an eternity! But we are back home and with our beautiful little Wyatt. Thank you Jesus! There is always hope. I love you guys.

The waiting game

Hello everyone,

The good news is my liver is doing just fine! My #'s are back to normal, so the doctors are happy about that but, due to the holiday tomorrow they are going to wait and do the colonoscapy test on Wed. I am not looking forward to that at all! :( YICKS! but they said I'll be put out for it so..that's good. So, here we are just waiting. Trying to keep our heads up and feel better. Its been a rough day, but I've got my Jesus and the love of my life Brian to keep my spirits up. Thank you for the many prayers that have already gone up on behafe of our family. Keep praying for me please. :) I love you all. Your all like family to me.

Hosptial Again

My dear friends,

Well here I am once again in my second home. j/k I've been here so many times that it feels like it. I was admitted into the ER here at UCSF last night late because of severe lower abdominal problems, nausea and throwing up. My liver #'s we in the 1oo's. Ouch! not good. But as of this morning my #'s seem to be a little better. The doctors seem to think that the high amounts of medications that I take may have caused some toxicity in my system causing all these problems so they are going to slowly lower my med's. I was also dehydrated. They plan on watching me closely to day and then running some tests starting tomorrow. Such as, CT scans, Liver Biopsy, upper oscopy and colonoscopy.. so I'm up for some interesting stuff. The nausea has lessened due to a medication they have been giving me. But as of yet they are still not sure what is up with me! so here I am just waiting trying to feel better. My spirits are up and I am trying to be optimistic. Once we find out anything that is more solid we will let you know. Please continue to pray for us though, its not easy being here again.

Dear Friends,

Today is a great day. Thankfully I am much better. The doctors have let me go home and it feels so good to sleep in my own bed. I am at a point were I can hardly handle being in a hospital, even though they have been a HUGE! help to me :) The test results for my virus have not come back yet, but its looks to them as though I have beat what ever I contracted. We have hit a little bump in the road. I have been admitted to UC Davis. It looks like I have some kind of infection. The doctors are still taking tests so we don't know any of the results. Three of a kind

This week I went to San Fran for a 20 yr anniversary celebrating successful liver transplants. I was nervous I wouldn't meet anyone my age that had gone through similar circumstances, but I was wrong, from the far left is Betsy 52, who had acute liver failure 17 yrs ago and survived 2 liver transplants. Mitch 2nd from the left is very special to me. His liver transplant was 3 months after mine. He had acute liver failure and is 25 yrs old! Both of them have a great outlook on life and we have become like family over night. We have something in common that is rare and that no ones else can quite relate to. The sweet lady in the red is Mary, she is the best nurse in the world! she helped keep all of us together while we went through our tough times. There needs to be more people in the world like her. I will be forever thankful that God brought her into my life. She is one of a kind. Going to San Fran was the best medacine! My spirits are lifted and I feel that if they can keep overcoming the obstacles before them ,than so can I. We are staying in contact and will be there for each other. I feel so happy to be able to share this wonderful experience with all of you dear friends. I love all of you so much.

Its been forever I know. But I've got some exciting news! Brian and I went for another Doctors check up in San Fran yesterday and we were so thankful to here that I am back to being completley normal again. My #'s are perfect. Wow unreal!!! It has just been a little over 9 months since my liver transplant and God has truley done a work in me. I feels so good to be leading a normal life once again. I thought this day would never come. But it finally has. I could hardley wait to share the news with all of my dear friends. What a God I serve.

Just taken a week ago at our "Roam" family reunion.

It has taken me a while to finally put these pictures up of myself. They were taken while in my rejection stage. But I feel it is time. As you can see from my newest picture God has sustained me and kept me through all the trials and is continually healing me. Brian and I are so very thankful for what He has done for us. Tonight has been such a amazing time for me. For the 1st time since I had my liver transplant I read every Blog that was posted to me from the beginning. I feel quite emotional at this moment to say the least. It has brought back such a flood of memories on how much all of you were there for me and Brian during our very hard time. Your love and support really did hold us together along with all your wonderful notes that you wrote to us. I feel so overwhelmed to have such wonderful people of God there for me in a time of need. I have confidence not only in my GOD but also in the prayers of all of you. Not a one of you will ever be forgotten to me. All I can say is thank you and I love you.

I believe it is time to get back to normal! My God is still on the thrown and has been taking care of me. My little Wyatt is absolutely into everything and loving every minute of it. He went on a plane ride today. He did so good. His eyes did get really big when we took off it was so cute. We are currently in St. Louis Missouri. We are here to enjoy a "Roam" family reunion. The doctors think the trip would be good for me and I have to agree with them. I feeling good. I'll be putting some new pictures up soon. Until then thank you for praying.

Wow! all of you dear friends are so uplifting. Your words of encouragement and love can truly do wonders. I believe that God will see me through this and that maybe someday I will be able to lift your spirits through my experiences. The doctors called yesterday and had some very good news. My numbers have been going way down! When Brian and I were a district conference so many of you prayed for me and I have to say, I felt something. Mothers Day

My dear friends,

I was blessed with a wonderful Mothers Day! As Brian and I were getting ready for church this morning we both looked at each other and said " I'm here for my 2nd mothers Day!" It was quite a moment for both of us. We were blessed to spend it with Tim and Saprina in Reno. It was wonderful. We had such a peaceful wonderful time together. Even at bitter sweet moments when I was missing my own mother. Of course Brian treated me like a queen. What a wonderful husband I have. My little Wyatt looked so cute!!! I'll post some pics soon. I'm feeling pretty well my numbers are varying but hopefully they will continue to go down. I just draw strength from God everyday, and look forward to that back yard! I love all of you and will let you know if anything interesting happens in the near future.

All my dear friends,

I first want to apologize for taking so long to get back to all of you. The last few days in the hospital were really tough. But.... I am now out of UCSF! thank God!! It was so hard for Brian and I to be back in that place. Although we are thankful for all the help they have given us. In my last rejection in Dec. UCSF gave me 5 treatments of (OkT3) this time they gave me 7. It took a real toll on my body so the recovery has been a little harder. But I made it through. I've been out of the hospital for a few days and am beginning to feel a little better. I've lost all my weight again. I had finally made it up to 115 (I know that does not seem like much) but for me it was. Unfortunately I'm back down to 103 so I've got some weight to gain! The doctors are not sure what caused my liver to go into rejection once again, but it could be contributed to my youthfull immune system and stress..who knows? but we caught it in time. They have once again upped my medication but feel confident that my liver will be okay. Please continue to pray for a quick recovery. Thank you for your continued prayers.

Hospital Time

My dear friends,

Well, here we are once again in UCSF. My liver has gone into rejection and they are treating me with some very strong medication( OKT3) "made from mice!" to try and help. The medication has been working successfully so far, but It does take a toll on my body so please pray for my strength. Wyatt was able to come up yesterday to visit us for a couple of hours. It felt so good to hold him again. I have two treatments left so hopefully Mon. or Tue. we will be able to once again go home. Please continue to pray for us. The road that has been set before use seems tough but we know with the prayers of our friends and family God will see us through.

My Dear Friends,

First I want to say thank you for being so consistent in writing me. In times when Brian and I have felt no hope, your words have been there to get us through the day. I have wonderful news! Yesterday Brian and I were on our way back down to San Fran for another check up with the doctors, when I received a call from them. They told me there was no need for me to come in. I have been doing so well that they feel confident that its time for me to strike out on my own!! Thank you JESUS! They have also said that I only need to get my blood drawn once a month. My veins are very thankful hahaha. My God is in control and has a plan for me and my family. Although we do not know our future, we are confident that God will direct our every step if we trust him.

Hello Everyone,

I know it has been a long time since I have posted anything and I'm sorry about that. My life has been very hectic as of lately. We are currently in Long Beach LA spending time with my in-laws. They are having so much fun with Wyatt. He is crawling and it is so cute! He is truley a joy in my life. So untainted by the trials of this life. My liver is doing great. It has been three months since my surgery and I feel almost completely back to normal. Thank you JESUS!!!

I would like to ask everyone to pray especially for my family and home church in Redding as of now. We are going through the fire and need God to strenghen us. I know the power of God, just look at the miracle He performed in me. I love all of you so much. Thank you for your prayer and support.

Dear friends,

Yesterday Brian and I went back to San Francisco for our first check up since I got out of the hospital. We were not excited about going back but we knew it had to be done. Luckily we heard good news. The doctors said all of my numbers in my blood looked perfect and normal. He said that I looked great! Thank you Jesus!!!! We are still in Carson City spending time with my sister. They have been so wonderful to us. I thank God for such a dedicated and loving family. I've gained a little bit of weight, not much but its something. Its just going to take time. I've never really been one to gain weight anyway so it will be a challenge for me but I'm up for the task. My little Wyatt is doing wonderful. He just turned 9 months and is trying to crawl. My sweet Brian is a continued support to me and is doing well. I'm so thankful to have him.

Home for the Holidays

My Dear friends,

I am so thankful to be out of the hospital. This last venture to the hospital lasted 16 days. We are currently in Carson City NV staying with my sister Denise Bobo and enjoying the comforts of their home. We were able to celebrate a late Christmas together with my family and if felt so good. I'm still very weak and shaky from this last treatment and currently weigh 110 lbs on my 5'8' frame, so I'm very skinny. But my family is working on fattening me up. And I'm trying to exercise to build my muscle tone back. I've taken myself off of my pain meds, sleeping pills and anxiety medication. I refuse to become dependent on them. Nightime insomnia is a real challenge but I'm working through it. Well I'm very thankful to be enjoying the new year. Having a liver transplant has changed my life forever. I take nothing for granted anymore. I'm so thankful for every morning that I wake up next to my husband and get to hold my beautiful little boy. God is so good to me. Brian and I are enjoying this blog so much! You are so supportive and such an encouragement. We will continue to keep everyone posted on anything new that comes up. Please continue to pray for our family as we take one day at a time. We love all of you.

GREAT News!

We are finally home. Yesterday the doctors gave Bethani the green light to go home! We are so excited and exhausted at the same time. The last 2 weeks have been long ones but we are grateful that the new anti rejection medication is working.

Change of Plans!

Well we have a change of plans. We are not going home for Christmas. The Liver team told us this morning that her liver #'s are not what they should be yet. They have started Bethani on another immune suppressant drug that is a whole new level. Short term side affects are severe flu like symptoms and long term affects are much more serious, but we have to get this rejection under control. We are optimistic and believing that this medication will work better than the former. Although this puts a kink in our plans for the holidays we are optimistic that everything will work out for the best.

Tonight Bethani began her first treatment and is very nervous and scared about the severe side affects. Please keep her in you prayers through this difficult time. Remember the family (myself, and her mother specifically) as we help carry this load with Bethani.

A nitetime talk.

Dear friends,

Well it is currently 10 pm Wed. night and I am about to start my 5 night treatment for rejection. I have been surprisingly positive today. I thought today would be one of the hardest days for me but God has sustained me through distractions such as getting to see my little Wyatt this evening for the first time in 5 days. I fed him sweet potatoes, and tonight was the first time he said "DADA" in front of all of us. It felt so good not to miss out on a special moment like that. Being away from Wyatt has been harder on Brian and I than we realized cause we can now see that he misses us. But I have a Goal everyone....5 nights of intense treatment and then it looks like possibly home sweet home. Pray for us to get through this next 5 nights and 5days. They say there could be a lot of flu like symptoms so they have given me Tylenol, and Benedryl 30 min before my treatment just to help... but then again most people get through it just fine. So i guess we shall see. I feel so close to each one of you its almost strange, hearing from so many of you I have not seen or heard from in years. But just knowing you are there and you are praying is doing more than you could ever realize for me and my whole family... So remember I am shooting for being home for Christmas. That's one of our prayer goals ok, well I gotta start the treatment. I love all of you and your comments are still holding me up so please continue.

update 100 and something!

Well we are still here at UCSF working at getting this moderate rejection under control. As you are aware Bethani had a feeding tube for about 24 hrs until she began vomitting which caused her feeding tube to come up. So, Bethani will get another opportunity to keep food down without the tube. This is a good thing.

Today she has already had another biopsy and the results will be in tomorrow. The liver team is concerned about her lab numbers hovering instead of declining. So if the biopsy says rejection again then they will move to a much more powerfull medication for anti-rejection. This will help get her lab numbers back to normal. The only problem is that there can be some harsh side affects.

Big Picture is we need prayer for her lab numbers to level out and for this rejection to stop as quickly and smoothly as possible. As I have said before we need the peace of God to surround us and keep our hearts and minds against fears, and worries.

Good News!

According to the Liver Team Bethani's labs are getting better. Her main liver #'s are going down which means the anti rejection medication is working! This is the news we have been hoping for. Also if her numbers continue to trend downward then they will not have to put the camera down her stomach and check the bile duct. We thank God for this wonderful news!

She has endured 2 very difficult days in which she has gone through a biopsy, and lung draining procedures. Last night the doctors noticed her oxygen level was a little low and so they had to drain fluid from her right lung. This was not an easy procedure but necessary for her oxygen level. They where able to drain 2 liters of fluid off her right lung.

Where to from here?
Now the plan is to put a feeding tube in some time today so they can get her some much needed nutrition. This too has been difficult for Bethani to accept, however it might just help her with the nausea problems that she has been having as well as strength for recovering.

Your prayers are definitely helping us through this crazy time, please continue to pray that this nausea subsides enough to eat and keep meds down and lastly pray that we get a complete recovery from this rejection.

My sweet little wife is in a lot of pain. Please pray for her.

Fellow friends, family, and concerned. We just finished meeting with Bethani's liver team of Doctors. We have a variety of news to give you today. First let me thank you again for all you prayer and response to this blog as it has been a great source of encouragement for Bethani, myself, and the fam.

Yesterday was a big day for Bethani in that she experienced a liver biopsy as well as a lung draining procedure. If you would like the name of the procedure it goes something like this (lksdalfoi*%4) =). J/K I will just have to translate into the normal guy terms. Anyway they were able to drain a liter of fluid from her lung which has allowed her to breath some what easier. The new pain med is making her tired but appears to be easier on the stomach so this might be a peace of the puzzle we have been waiting for.

Today's news:
First we have good news in that her liver numbers from her lab report are trending down all except for one. The treatment that they started yesterday for rejection is already taking affect but will continue until her numbers are back to normal.

Second the biopsy results are back and are showing moderate rejection and a bile duct problem. So this is not exactly the news we where hoping for today. To get a better look at what is going on with her bile duct they will be testing her later today with a stomach camera. This will kill 2 birds with one stone, by allowing them to see if there is anything going on in her stomach (nausea) as well as in the bile duct. The Doctors have again reassured us that even a bile duct draining problem is an easy fix with a stint.

Despite the 3 main issues looming, (nausea, rejection, and the bile duct) we want you to know they are very treatable and even common. However, it has still caused Bethani and I to be uneasy. Please pray the Docs get her nausea under control with the correct medicine and dosage and pray for a measure of peace to surround us in this anxious time. We feel like we are hitting another bump in the road so this is definately not easy for us here.

Finally one last bit of information, they are going to insert a small feeding tube for nutrition. This is not good news for us but because she has not been able to eat they need to get nutrition in her somehow. She has been fighting to keep food down over the past couple of weeks and really hasn't done that well. so once this nausea gets under control we can feed her.

To all the concerned, family, and friends. As you already know the past 6.5 weeks has been a crazy time for Bethani and I. This traumatic time started back on 10/28 when Bethani first started experiencing symptoms of liver problems. There is no doubt that without your prayers and support we could not have made it this far. It is at times as traumatic as this that you really have to rely on prayer from others and trust that God is in control.
Currently we are waiting to see what the biopsy results will bring and then her lab work as well. For those who are not familiar with transplant medicine, let me rest some of your concern. First it is common for acute liver failure transplant patients to experience rejection and this is very treatable. The doctors have reiterated to us that they can treat this with no problem. I don't want to come across as everything is ok and alright, because it definitely is not, it is very scary for us right now, however we are on the road to recovery. Bethani is in for a biopsy right now. Last night they hydrated her, and they are trying to get her nausea under control. She has developed a fever. She is in critical condition in ICU. They will not totally know the level of rejection until after the biopsy.

Urgent Prayer Needed!

Bethani had her blood work done yesterday in Redding. She woke up this morning unable to keep her medications down. They called the doctors in San Francisco to discuss her problem today. After looking at her blood work they told them to come straight to San Francisco that her numbers showed that she was in full rejection of her liver.

Bethani was able to go home and spend some time with Wyatt. She is still very weak, but she has been eating a little. She will take a bite, wait 20 minutes and take another bite. She is very determined to get her strength back. She has her regular doctors appointment Tuesday.

Thank you so much for your concern, prayer, and words of encouragement! The strength that come from all of you is fabulous. God has been so good, and we know that He has His almighty hand upon Bethani! It is still a pure miracle that she had not only an acceptable liver, but a perfect liver for her in just one day.

Her recovery is progressing. Sometimes it seems very slow, but there is progress. Yesterday was one of those slower days. She was not able to eat at all. Her nausea is unbearable at times. Today had progress. Bethani ate a little of her lunch today. She is walking at least two times a day. Her spirit was up, and she had enough strength to talk on the phone to her sister (Denise Bobo). She is still short of breath due to the fluid on her lung, but her oxygen levels are normal. Thank you Jesus!

Continue to pray that the Lord will help with the nausea. That is a big hurdle at this time. Thanks again for everything!

Hospital Report

Bethani has been resting more and more. She was dehydrated and one of her lungs is two-thirds filled with fluid, but she had no fever. The doctors at this point think the lung fluid will clear by itself. They can drain it if it is needed (God can drain it!) The ultrasound and x-ray on her liver was fine. Fluid is flowing through her liver. Last night she was able to keep her medications in her system. They are trying different meds for the nausea. The doctors want her to eat anything at this point. The more calories the better.

She has been very determined to get better. Even when she was nauseated she would still get up and walk. The doctors very strongly told her she needs to eat more to get more strength.

Bro Bishop is at home with Wyatt. Sis Bishop and Brian are at the hospital with Bethani. Thank you for your prayer for all of them. God's family is awesome! The support and prayer they are getting is beyond words.

Bethani was admitted to UC San Francisco last night. They were able to give her medication to help her get some much needed rest. They also are giving her medication to help her nausea. They expect her to be there for three days for observation and test.

Bethani, as you know in our last blog, has been nauseated and unable to eat. She got to the point where she could not keep her medications in her system. Sis Bishop, Brian, and Bethani were on their way to San Francisco for her Tuesday morning appointment. They called ahead to the doctors, and they asked them to go straight to the ER tonight. They are there now. We will give you another update tomorrow.

Bethani is very weak. You will never know how much it means to her knowing that you are praying! She knows from reading this blog that prayer is going up.

Bethani is in need of our prayers. The doctors are working to regulate some of her medications. Her anxiety level is VERY high. Part of this is due to her medications. She is also very nauseated and has been unable to eat which does not help with her medications.

Report on Doctors Trip

Brian and Bethani went to San Francisco for her weekly appointment. They went Monday and stayed the night. Tuesday she met with the lead doctor who preformed the surgery (Dr Zang). The appointment lasted an hour and a half. The doctors were very positive and said her liver is doing well. They said she can have a normal life after recovery.

This weeks homework is to stand straight (Mom Bishop get the books out to put on her head lol). She also is taking one pain medication at night, and they want her off by her next appointment.

Bethani had her first outing Wednesday. She went to have her hair washed and conditioned (and a head massage too!) She got pampered!

Hello from Bethani

Hello my wonderful friends and family. The first time I was feeling well enough to get online I was floored when I saw all of the messages on the blog. I laughed and cried at the same time, it felt so good. Words can not express how thankful I feel to have so many family and friends so genuinely concerned for me. The prayers that went up for me were more than I will ever know. All of you have been so supportive to my husband and little Wyatt, thank you. So many of you have financially blessed us. I don't know what we would do with out all of your help. The doctors have told me that I will have some good and some bad days during my recovery, and I have already experienced many of those, but my God has been so faithful. Sister Rash called my father the other day and said that she had a dream that she stayed up with me all night covering me with blankets because I was cold. She said she didn't know why she had the dream but to tell us about it. My parents, Brian and I feel very strongly that it represents a prayer covering over me at this time in my life. I know that your prayers are helping me to be strong through all of this. My God is so faithful.

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving! What a day to be truly thankful. My appetite was good and I was able to enjoy everything. All of the swelling in my body has gone down and my scar is healing well. I'm still not able to stand up strait, but I'm walking and climbing stairs daily. My blood pressure and temp are normal every morning. And the doctor has cut back some of my medication. Thank you Jesus. Tomorrow Brian and I will be in San Francisco for my first doctor's check up. We are looking forward to a good report. I will let everyone know whats new as soon as I can. But once again I want to say thank you for everything. Please continue to pray for Brian and I and write me. It is a highlight in my day. I love all of you so much. Thank God for the miracle he is performing in me.

She is so excited to have her appetite back. She is holding Wyatt for a few minutes at a time. Bethani is overwhelmed by the love and support she is receiving. Thank you for your continued prayer, love and financial support!

Going Home Day!

Bethani is on her way to Redding! The doctors said her liver is "happy" (fully functioning). We serve a MIGHTY GOD! One week after her transplant, and she is on her way home!

Bethani is eating much better. She is eating chicken and she loves sour foods - lemons, green strawberries. sour gummy bears. She does not want any sweets! The doctors have been able to get her medication regulated. Her pain and nausea is under control. She is walking more and more each day. The doctors have told her she cannot be exposed to the sun due to risk of skin cancer - she must wear hats, sunscreen, etc.

Pray for them on their way home. They have a four hour drive, and Bethani has to walk a little every hour. Thank you for your prayers!

Bethani was able to spend time with Wyatt. He sat on her bed and played. She really enjoyed this time with him. Brian is doing good. They are getting an education on her recovery. Brian administered her medications yesterday. Bethani will know how by the time she goes home. The doctors have said she is doing awesome in her recovery. Thank You Jesus!

Brian enjoys company, and Bethani likes to read the comments and the guest book from visitors at the hospital, but at this time she is not allowed visitors.

Miracle Report

The doctors have told Bethani and the family that after they removed her liver that a biopsy showed that her liver was completely dead and if the transplant had not been preformed she would have only made it three more days. GOD is Great! What a MIRACLE!

Bethani is going through the normal stages of recovery after a transplant. Her anxiety, pain, and emotional levels are high. Her immune level is very, very low. Only immediate family are allowed in her room, but Brian enjoys visitors. It is uplifting to him. Brian is staying strong. It is not for certain on when she will be going home (sometime Saturday to Monday).

Thank you for your continued prayers and support. Sis Denise Bobo is with Bethani at night, and Sis Saprina Flowers is with her in the day. Keep all of them in prayers.

Bethani moved to her new room with an uncomfortable bed. The nurses brought her an ICU bed (she deserves the best!) The doctors told the family that today would be the worst day for pain, but we KNOW a Mighty GOD! She had a great day!

Her color is getting better and better. She is smiling and getting back to BEHTANI. She is sooo much better! She had 11 IVs, but today she has none. She is drinking water, and the doctors said her body accepted the liver extremely well.

Recovery Update

Bethani is out of ICU. She has been transferred to a regular room. She is doing good. A team of 9 doctors came to see her this morning. They are planning on getting her out of bed to walk today. They are still working on regulating her medications, so her pain level is still high at times.

She is looking forward to the time when she is able to read all the blog comments. The family has been telling her about them. Thank you for your outpouring of love. It is overwhelming to Brian and the entire family.

Bethani spent two hours in a chair today. Her pain is becoming more controllable, and her yellowing is disappearing. Brian and the rest of the family got some needed sleep last night. Denise Bobo and Mom Bishop stayed the night at the hospital, and in the morning they went to the motel and got some rest.

The doctors are not rushing Bethani's recovery. They are making sure everything is done right and at the right time. They are taking every precaution. They want her in ICU a little longer so they can watch over her real close. They are a great team.

First base is over. Now they are looking at second base.

Bethani is now in surgery! The doctors came and greeted the family (including little Wyatt) then wheeled Bethani by the family for them to see her. Brian can stay with her through the prep. The transplant team will consist of eleven doctors and the surgery will take five to seven hours.

Bethani (Bishop) Roam is the loving wife of Rev Brian Roam, mother of a 7 month old son, daughter of Rev David and Nina Bishop. She is 24 years old. Two weeks ago she became nauseated and unable to eat. She went to two different hospital - a wrong diagnoses at one and the other not able to help. She was flown to UC San Francisco on Friday, November 9. On Saturday it was determined that her liver was infected and was not working. Her family was advised that a liver transplant was needed immediately. Please continue to prayer for her and her family.
